    Site visit and fixed price

The installer looks at the entrance and gives you a fixed price. Nothing happens unless you say yes.

We don't make or fit gates ourselves. We pass your request to one installer who covers your county. The prices on this site are published prices, with their source.

The decision

The entrance decides the gate

Before material or colour, look at the driveway. Swing gates need a clear arc to open into. If cars park just inside, or the drive rises from the road, the leaves won't clear. A sliding gate moves along the boundary instead, but it needs a clear run beside the opening and a track or cantilever, which costs more. See sliding vs swing gates.

Then weight. A light aluminium gate is easy on hinges and motors. A solid timber or steel gate needs strong piers and a motor rated for it. The groundwork, the cable run and the safety devices explain most of the difference between two quotes.

Widening the entrance needs planning permission. Gates up to 2 m usually don't. Read the planning rules before you order.

FAQ

Questions people ask

How much do driveway gates cost in Ireland?

Installed driveway gates in Ireland typically cost €1,500–€6,000, according to both BM Alarm Systems and ShamFix's 2026 guide. Electric swing gates are about €2,500–€3,500, electric sliding gates €3,000–€5,000, and an electric sliding aluminium gate €4,200–€7,500+ from FÁLÚ. VAT is not stated on any of these.

Sliding or swing gates?

Sliding suits slopes, wide openings and cars parked inside the gate. Swing suits level entrances with room for the leaves. Swing is usually cheaper.

Do I need planning permission?

Usually not for the gate itself. Clare County Council's guidance says gates and gateways up to 2 metres high can be built or replaced without permission, subject to site location, planning history and particulars. You do need permission to make a new or wider entrance onto a public road. Check with your council.

Are electric gates safe?

When fitted properly. The Health and Safety Authority says force limitation must be backed up by photo beams inside and outside the gate.

Who will ring me?

We pass your request to one gate installer who covers your county. Your number isn't sent to a list. They ring you, ask about the entrance, usually look at the site, and give you a fixed price. Nothing is booked until you say yes. Listing a company's prices here doesn't mean it's the one we pass you to.
